After completely cutting the crap out of a piece of lamb(sorry Jimmy), seeing my peers with lamb burgers that apparently tasted awesome and watching lamb burger videos on Youtube, I decided to try a rack of lamb. People had said that the lamb burgers tasted great, and then my friend Damian told me yesterday that lamb tastes the way it smells, like shit. This really made me want to see what's up with lamb. Before I get into how it tasted and if I liked it or what not, I'm going to talk a bit about what I did with the lamb prior and during cooking. After last nights adventure with DamDam and Dieguito, I got home and rubbed down my meat, and no that meat, I am talking about the lamb. I watched a lot of videos on Youtube, even one by Chef Gordon Ramsay and one by one of my favorite Youtubers Chef John, I got a lot of ideas of what to do to Mary's little lamb. I kept it simple and rubbed it down with some salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. When it came down to cooking it, I put it in a pan with a bit of oil and let it get some color on all sides then put it to the side. After about ten minutes, I rubbed some dijon mustard on it so that way the bread crumb mixture(bread crumbs, parsley, fresh finely chopped garlic, chopped thyme and a tiny bit of salt and black pepper) would stick. I then put it in a glass tray which momma Chubs cooks lasagna in. Popped that into the oven which was preheated at 375 and let that cook up for about 20 minutes. The potatoes were simple. All I did was wash them, cut them into quarters and put them into a tray. I then poured some olive oil onto them along with some fresh chopped garlic, rosemary, salt and a bit of white pepper. |
Now for the moment of truth, did I like this rack of lamb I made? No I did not. No one in the Pereira household like this rack of lamb besides my mother, but yet again if you were to give her a deep fried car tire, she probably would eat it and like it. I'm not sure if the problem was me or if lamb is just not something I like. The crust of the lamb with all the seasoning and bread crumbs tasted good, but then when I started tasting the actual lamb, it was pretty gross. The potatoes tasted really good so I definitely will be making those again, but I won't attempt to make lamb in a long time. Next time I eat out or if I ever have lamb in front of me I will give it a taste and see if the problem was just how I cooked it or if lamb and Matthew are just not meant to be.
