So for the food that I have never tried before, I chose steak. Now if you know me well enough you will know two things; I eat chicken 90% of the time and I was tagged with the nickname 'chicken sandwich' for about a year but that explanation is for another day.
The steak I made is in the above picture. It really only applied to one of the five basic tastes which is salty because I seasoned it with some salt and black pepper. I did add some butter on top after, so I guess you can say it did taste a bit sweet after.
In my opinion it tasted really good, but there is something missing but I just don't know what it was. Maybe it was some kind of BBQ sauce or another type of herbs or spices. It smelled like any kind of meat so if I were to go in blindfolded I would not be able to tell you what kind of meat it was. I'd describe what I heard as small firecrackers because it hit the grill and immediately began to sizzle. Besides that I heard my brother yelling because he lost in one of his games and my sister telling him to shut up. Now I'm going to be honest, this steak does not look appealing to me. I only ate it because of this assignment plus I feel like even if you really screw something up in the kitchen, it will always taste decent if you were the one to make it. I took a picture of it on the grill because it looked decent, but on my plate it did not look like something someone would pay to eat again. When I touched it, I said something in Portuguese because it was really hot which can not be translated in English. When I pressed my thumb into it(my hands were clean and it was my piece of steak), it kept its shape but eventually sprung back to its original shape.
What I learned about my palate is that it is really different than someone else's palate. I put a reasonable amount of salt on them and barely any black pepper. I thought it did not have enough salt but my mother said it was too salty so I found that interesting.
Steak is delicious! Now that I've eaten it I will definitely be eating it again, but next time I will have to look up some cooking techniques or combinations of herbs and spices for it. The one I made tasted really good but I felt like something was missing, so next time I make it I'll make it a different way.
This experience was very eye opening because it made me realize everyone's palate is different. I love spicy food, I could use hot sauce on anything, so when I cook chicken which is usually what I work with if it be popcorn chicken, chicken sandwiches or just a regular juicy chicken breast, I tend to go heavy on the spice. When I cook it and its really hot, I love it but other people don't but I would always tell them to man up. With the steak, it finally made me realize that what I am tasting someone else might not be tasting or what I prefer is something someone else may not prefer.

At the end of the day, cooking is really fun and eating the food you make is a lot better, but no matter who you are, cleaning up just sucks.
